Thanks to Everyone Who Supported the 2010 Knoxville Relay for Life.

Relay was a week ago today and it's time for me to say thanks again to everyone who helped. The event was successful in every respect. Great weather, great turnout, great fundraising. The Optimist Club of Knoxville is an absolutely amazing group, with almost $7,000 raised so far! Their Team Captain, Buzz Buswell, is a Man among Men. The KnoxCares! Team set a goal of $2500 and then promptly blew right by it, raising $3255! For the year to date, Downtown Relay has grossed over $90,000, with one more fundraiser to go.

To everyone who helped, supported, donated, we say thank-you. You make it possible for us to Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back, on this day, and every day.

The 2010 Relay is Coming Up!

Remember, the 2010 Knox County Relay for Life is Friday, June 25, 2010, at World's Fair Park, at 7:00 pm. Relay is a time when people come together for one night to celebrate, remember and fight back. It's not a race and there's no running involved. Lots of fun activities take place, raising money for cancer research, including food sales, games and contests, live bands and more!

Relay began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, ran and walked around a track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since then, Relay has grown from a single man’s passion to fight cancer into the world’s largest movement to end the disease. Each year, more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States, along with additional communities in 19 other countries, gather to take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Thanks to Relay participants, we are creating a world with more birthdays a world where cancer can’t claim another year of anyone’s life.

Remember that you can help in the fight to cure cancer.
